Former boxing star (and current K-1 MAX fighter) Virgil Kalakoda was robbed on Thursday outside his home in "broad daylight" by three men, one of whom was carrying a gun. Kalakoda, 27, of Retreat said that while he was alarmed at the audacity of the robbers, "it could have happened to anyone". The three men made off with his wallet, which contained about R400. As the boxer-turned-kickboxer pulled into his driveway early on Thursday morning, he became aware of three men behind him. "I was about to enter the house when I noticed these three guys. One of them pointed a gun at me while the others searched for my wallet," he said. Kalakoda said while he was afraid, he remembered to remain calm and co-operative. "This is the second time I've been robbed at gunpoint. I know it's pointless arguing with someone who has a gun. It takes a second to pull the trigger." He added: "It was morning and there was no one in my street. The firearm was clearly visible." After taking his wallet, the thieves made off in their get-away car, which was parked further down the street. Kalakoda, who won the World Boxing Council's intercontinental light-middleweight title in 2003, said he was angry. "It upset me to think that some guys can come in off the street and rob you of your hard-earned money."
